Teen Remembered After Courageous Battle with Cancer | KTLA 5

CALABASAS, Calif. (KTLA) ? A 16-year-old boy who worked to give others hope, even while he battled cancer, is being remembered on Friday.

cordasco-picKevin Cordasco will be laid to rest on Friday morning. The Calabasas High School student died on Monday.

He made a big impact on those who knew him, and often used the Internet to reach out and spread his message of courage and hope.

?I was given a grim prognosis a few months ago,? Cordasco said while speaking back in November 2012 on illusionist Criss Angel?s YouTube channel.

?I try to remain positive all the time and do stuff like this ? spreading awareness about it ? because I now know that my life mission is to at least be a part in the cure for cancer.?

Cordasco had a lot of friends at Calabasas High, and would often say he just wanted to be like every other ?normal? teenager.

He was honored by the basketball team in 2011 as their most inspirational player.

While fighting neuroblastoma, a cancer he was diagnosed with at the age of nine, he always remained positive.

His friends and family say his mantra was ?courage, strength and believe.?

Over the last six years, he went through multiple surgeries, experimental drugs, chemotherapy and radiation.

During his battle, he never gave up hope. Instead, he spread awareness about the disease.

Cordasco was featured in a video for the charity Hats Off for Cancer, where he was crowned during a very touching tribute filmed in Malibu.

He leaves behind his parents and a younger brother.

Funeral services were scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at St. Bernadine of Sienna Catholic Church in Woodland Hills. The public is welcome to attend.
