New BMW sports wagon arrives in NZ next month

BMW New Zealand has released eagerly awaited details of the all-new BMW 3 Series Touring, due to arrive at dealerships around the country next month.

The new model, which will also be available with the option of BMW xDrive, the world?s most intelligent all-wheel drive system, will introduce a new level of power, performance and dynamic driving experience to the Touring segment.

"New Zealanders have been waiting a long time for the availability of xDrive on a Touring derivative. It has only recently been launched in right-hand drive so we?re delighted to be able to offer it as part of our new model portfolio," said the Managing Director of BMW New Zealand, Nina Englert.

"We have high expectations that these models will establish themselves as the ultimate all-wheel drive sports wagon in the premium segment, as they are the perfect vehicle for an active outdoors-orientated Kiwi lifestyle."

There will be seven all-new BMW 3 Series Touring models in the range, covering a variety of petrol and diesel powertrains in varying engine sizes, as well as the option of xDrive on three models.

BMW xDrive is a proactive variable all-wheel drive system which, in usual operating conditions, splits the drive 60:40 in favour of the rear-wheels ensuring BMW?s trademark rear-wheel drive feeling is retained. However, the innovative system is capable of delivering nearly 100% of the car?s power to just one axle.

This provides control and safety in all weather conditions and enhances stability in bends by recognising even the slightest tendency to understeer or oversteer, in turn taking counteractive torque distribution measures.

Standard specification across the range is also at an impressively high level, in keeping with that introduced with the launch of the Sedan models in 2012.

A 6.5-inch high resolution monitor, standard across all models, displays information from the on-board computer and all models boast USB and Bluetooth connectivity.

A suite of Active-Protection features, including seatbelt pretensioner, feature across the range and contribute to Touring?s five-star safety rating.

A convenient 40:20:40 through-loading system further enhances the functionality and versatility of the new model, making it ideal for transporting large items such as surfboards, mountain bikes and snowboards.

Other impressive convenience features, previously available as options on some models, include automatic opening of the tailgate, park distance control front and rear, Electric Seat Adjustment with Memory Function and Rear view camera.

"In the past, options such as these have added to the final price of a new vehicle purchase, but we have worked hard to build these features into the car which has in turn significantly enhanced the value proposition of these new models," said Ms Englert.

"When considered alongside our no-more-to-pay driveaway pricing, the all-new 3 Series Touring range is an excellent example of the premium value offered by new BMW models."

The new Touring rear-wheel drive range will be available in March, with the launch of xDrive models following in May.

"BMW 3 Series Touring buyers typically like the driver orientated, sporty dynamics of the sedan but want more interior storage flexibility for their active lifestyle without the size of an SUV," said Ms Englert.

"The arrival of the all-new BMW 3 Series Touring means the best of both worlds is now available."
